We stayed at this campground memorial day weekend, it was beautiful. Well kept campground, many sites by river or close to. First i thought no running water might be a problem but since there is a river i brought a container with me and filled from river for dishes and hand wash. Bring drinking water with you and you are good. Its pretty close to town incase you need anything. Its dog friendly and many families staying here when we visit, we felt safe.

We just came back from the most romantic and peaceful vacation ever. We were so lucky to have snagged camp site #13. Amazing creek right at our feet, huge site amd well maintained. Camp ranger was super helpful and accommodating, especially when we had decided to play hooky on Monday and stay and extra night. It was that wonderful of a place. Bathrooms were clean and plentiful. We can’t wait to return!

It's the best campground for us in summer! It's very dog friendly, too. The campsite is along the river with a lot of water, shade, fire pits, picnic tables, and public toilets. There are hiking trails around. It requires reserving at least 2 nights on weekends and 3 nights during holidays. We went there on a week day, many spots first come, first serve. We had so much fun playing in the river with our golden retriever.

Like other reviews say, this is truly a hidden gem. The weather was hot, but the water was the perfect refresher. The host, Hector, was super attentive and helped us when a rattlesnake wanted to hang at our site. Can't wait to plan a trip to come back.

A big shout out to the camp hosts Juana and Alex - they made our first stay at this camp spectacular!
The place was very clean and well maintained. We appreciated how welcoming and available the hosts were. In the evening they would come around with their cart full of firewood and they tried to accommodate the various campsite requests. The roads could use repair and I would have loved tap water- but the bathrooms were kept very clean and properly stocked. The location and stream running through camp is absolutely perfect! ? recommend this campground!

We would like to thank de couple from New York (camphosts) who helped us out extremely well with the planning of the rest of our travels. The website she recommended is indeed a lifesaver and got us several campsites on packed places. We forgot your name but … THANK YOU! Greetings Nadia and Jakob.

Wheeler Gorge Campground is an absolute hidden gem! Not only was the location surprisingly remote, it also has spacious sites, many well maintained bathrooms and a beautiful creek.

By far the best part of this secret spot though, are the hosts. Juana and Alex were some of the most genuine, down to earth people I’ve ever met while camping. They went above and beyond to accommodate me and my girlfriend during our stay and we even spent much of the time hanging out with them at their host site sharing some great laughs. I can’t thank them enough for making it such an amazing Memorial Day weekend, when all other campgrounds were booked and or not willing to take walk ins. If you live in the LA area and want to get away for a weekend, please just come here. Just don’t tell too many of your friends about it LOL

P.S. Alex you’re the man. Keep being you!

Our favorite campground.
Though, this year they had removed all running water (a problem when you want to smother your campfire before going to bed, a really irresponsible move from the park in my opinion).
Another problem this year was the overwhelming overgrowth of poison oak, everywhere in the camp, including right inside the campsites where you are sure to contaminate your cooler, tent and shoes ( if you are lucky enough to not see your child stumble on a rock and fall face first in a bunch of the toxic plants).
