The Citizen is our Go To Place every Christmas. We have nothing but the most positive comments...the Rooms perfect is size and amenities. Staff is outstanding. Love having the Bar and Grange mere steps away...fab bartender...Breakfast in the lobby area was the best...Staff - From Doorman, Maids, Front Desk are terrific. We love the Citizen.

If service was a benchmark, this is the place. I am going to give you an example of excellence at its best. While eating in their restaurant (highly recommended), the server overheard me telling a friend how I needed more pillows on my bed because I like a lot of pillows. After our evening was finished, when I went into my room, much to my surprise, there were extra pillows. No one took credit. they just wanted me comfortable. Listen clean rooms, lots of political satire in rooms and elevators. Very classy place. Everyone has a common goal, to make us feel at home here. thank you

First interaction with the hotel was with Valet. I realize they don’t usually work for the hotel, but it’s part of the experience. They were friendly. Next interaction: Front desk - not so pleasant. Oddly enough, the Valet service was poor upon departure.

Overall, I would consider staying here again. Mostly for the food. Location was ok too.

Such a wonderful experience. This hotel is very charming and beautiful. The lobby is incredibly inviting. It looks like an old library. The room was spacious and very comfortable. The bathroom was very nice, good water pressure. The restaurant downstairs is very good. All the staff was very friendly. Would definitely stay here again.

I’m not really into politics, but I like this hotel and the idea of it. The rooms are really cozy and I mean real cozy. Some may complain the rooms are too small and they might be if you have two people or more in one room. I was by myself and it was fine for me. The valet workers were cool and they worked hard but the whole valet situation is pretty unorganized and chaotic. Hands-down the worst set up for a valet service I’ve seen. The walls are also ridiculously thin. You can hear your next-door neighbor at a regular talking volume as well as people outside on the street. Could also hear the domestic dispute between a couple that was extremely disturbing to where I had to contact the front desk to do a wellness check a couple of times and luckily everything was sorted out. (He got the boot). I appreciate the hotel reimbursing me on certain charges in lieu of the disturbances but unfortunately, I have to stay with this low rating. If the disturbance didn’t happen and the walls were a little bit thicker, I’d give it a solid 3.5.

The lobby is worth the price of admission in booking this hotel. You will enjoy what you discover. Our room was well appointed with old charm and modern workings. Breakfast was not included in the booking but we very much enjoyed the breakfast we ordered the morning after our stay. It's high quality. |The only drawback to the hotel which is no fault of its own is that it is in a tough neighborhood of down and outs. It is though close walk to downtown amenities.

I've stayed here at the Citizen many times over the past several years. Before I moved to Sacramento, I would visit for weekend trips with friends or my significant other and almost always stayed here. There's something really fun and interesting about the historical and political theme of the hotel that I'm drawn to. The service I've received has always been stellar and accommodating. The rooms themselves are charming and tastefully decorated. As far as location, staying here puts you right in the center of a lot of awesome restaurants and attractions within walking distance.

To echo what some have already said, there is no free parking in the area but they do have valet service. It's also worth noting that the Cesar Chavez park across the street is very lively and is sometimes host to live music events, fairs and festivals which can create some noise; this park is also home to many of the city's homeless though they tend to keep to themselves.

Overall, the hotel decor/theme and location are reasons I recommend the Citizen to friends, family and anyone planning a stay here in the Sacramento.

Beautiful hotel with outstanding service. My room was large & clean (pictures are from after two nights & they did a much better job making my bed LOL). Corner room on the 11th floor. Only drawback was a bit of noise from a wedding a few floors below but it did not go late. Great location.
