My husband and I had our wedding at Shieldhill Castle this summer and had a fantastic experience. We brought our wedding forward due to some sad family circumstances, ultimately arranging the whole thing in 7 weeks. Despite this stressful and emotional situation, Jane and the rest of the team were incredibly accommodating and very helpful throughout the entire process.

We booked out all the rooms for guests to stay in and had a fantastic time. A bonus is that the courtyard rooms are dog-friendly, so we were also able to have our border terrier Brodie at our wedding. The castle rooms are especially beautiful, and the bridal suite is absolutely perfect with plenty of space for a large group getting ready in the morning. We were very well looked after, with staff regularly checking on us and making sure we had everything we needed. Suzanne (chef) did a brilliant job with the menu and we had many comments on how great the food was from breakfast, canapes, wedding dinner and evening buffet! The building and grounds were also perfect for photos.

I really feel like the entire team went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly and to make it a special day for us.

I also have a brother who is a power wheelchair user, so accessibility was very important to me. The venue was ideal for this, with accessible courtyard rooms and plenty of space on the ground floor of the castle and in the marquee. There are only two small steps to the dance floor but this can be accessed, if required, with a portable ramp.

Overall, I couldn’t recommend Shieldhill Castle enough to both stay in and celebrate any special occasion! We look forward to going back to visit with so many happy memories made there.

We visited for a two night break. The hotel itself is stunning and has beautiful grounds too. Our courtyard room was gorgeous and so quiet and comfortable. The food was good and we were treated to an excellent breakfast each morning. What really makes it special are the hosts. They couldn’t do enough for you and took time to tell us about the castle hotel history and their hard efforts to restore its beauty. Definitely recommend a visit and don’t forget to ask about the resident ghost.

My wife and I booked for Dinner, taking advantage of the first Thursday of the month Steak night offer. We were certainly not dissapointed. 2 perfectly cooked Fillet steaks, home made chips, grilled cherry tomatoes and mushrooms, enhanced with side order of onion rings and blue cheese sauce with Mrs B having pepper sauce. The main courses were perfect, we followed this with sticky toffee pudding and a fantastic cheeseboard. The hotel is absolutely devine and inviting. The staff are welcoming and friendly. An addition given that We have visited on a number of previous occasions is to see the young waitress flourish from a shy young lady on our previous visits to a confident chatty friendly young lady, who took time to speak to us and acknowledge our previous visits. I have no doubt the other shy youngster now also gracing the dining room will also blossom into a great asset to the hotel. I would encourage you to seek out this gem in the country, I'm confident you will not be dissapointed. We will be back.

A lovely dog friendly hotel, everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Our room in the courtyard was spacious and clean & perfect for anyone bringing a dog. The evening meal was delicious as was the full Scottish breakfast the next morning. |Thank you for your wonderful hospitality.

We are from the US and were married at the Shieldhill Castle in 2008 (wonderful experience) and returned in 2016 (not so wonderful) but wanted to give it another try since we read about a new owner and the improvements that had been made. We recently stayed for 2 nights and were treated amazingly well and everything about the venue is perfect and how we remembered it (even better!!) from 2008. Our beautiful peaceful room, all the staff, the food, the views, the history (!) the gorgeous grounds - all was like a dream and we are so glad we returned.

Had been many years ago and the food was excellent then, so decided to go for dinner on my partner's birthday and we weren't disappointed. The food was very tasty and reasonably priced and the service was excellent - the three young members of staff who dealt with us are a credit to the hotel.

We married at Shieldhill in 2000, we were so excited to go back for our 25th wedding anniversary, until we got this:||Good Morning Kirsty, | |I am very sorry to let you down but the Castle is fully booked for the whole week beginning Monday 19th of May next year.||Didn't even offer us a different date - then I got this....||I understand that this is upsetting for you.|The diary was not opened when I emailed you but the events coordinator had taken a booking from a group that come to us regularly.||I am very sorry for the upset||So lesson is if your heart and soul is in this booking - AVOID as money talks..
