This Picnic Spot is a beautiful escape with scenic views, clean picnic areas, and plenty of open space to relax and enjoy nature. The area is well maintained, and we had a great time soaking up the peaceful ambiance by the lake.

We visited the park in the afternoon and were excited to try out the boating, which looked like a lot of fun.

However, one thing that caught us by surprise was the timing for the boating sessions. While the park itself was open until 6 PM according to Google Maps, we were informed upon arrival at 2:58 PM that boating closes by 3 PM every day.

Unfortunately, we missed out on that experience, so a heads-up for future visitors if you’re planning to go boating, be sure to arrive earlier in the day.

Overall, the park is a wonderful spot for a family day out, with plenty of space for kids to play, shaded areas to enjoy a picnic, and of course, beautiful views of Lake Norman.

We’ll definitely be back, and next time, we’ll plan ahead to get there earlier for the boating!

The park staff are incredible. Our phone reservation was handled by a polite and knowledgeable young lady who found us the perfect spot (#12). When we arrived after office hours and got lost, a park ranger helped us with directions and firewood. The campsites were great, with a firering, paved parking, picnic table, and flat tent area. The bathhouse was the best part, with clean showers. All staff members we met were friendly and helpful. We will definitely return!

Love riding the trails. Usually the trails are well maintained. Monbo loop is a really fun green trail that is a must if it’s your first time.

If you just want to hike, I’d suggest the lake loop. It’s approximately 6 miles with a cutback near the middle so you can end around 3 if you’d like. Bike are not permitted on the lake loop.

Absolutely love it here, almost secluded retreat area. The scenic drive to get there is beautiful, the nature surroundings peaceful, the water is clean. Fees are very reasonable, grills and picnic tables on site. Great day out for the family!

This is a nice state park for walking, fishing, canoeing, paddle boating, and mountain biking. The main building is sizable, and the paddle boats and canoes are behind it.
My wife and I took the Dragonfly and Alder walking trails, which are connected. They are short enough for children, have plenty of water views, and also have some interactive information boards. There was also a children's storybook spread out along the entire Alder Trail, and it was a cute nature story.
