This place is a gem! Scott at the front desk was welcoming upon check-in and was helpful throughout my three day stay, answering any questions I had about the area. My king room was spotless and so comfortable. The breakfast was fabulous - several choices and friendly staff, too! I adored the afternoon tea and cookies. It was a nice way to relax before an evening out. The large pool is moderately heated and very clean. The location was perfect for me to visit my son, who is attending the university. And even though the hotel is right off a main road, it was very quiet. There is also a disc golf course and an urban trail right next to the property. The English Inn is the only place I want to stay for my next visit.

I really enjoyed this hotel. It's got a neat exterior and the entrance is inviting. It has a nice lounge area with a fire. My friends and I spent at least 4 hours sititng there over the weekend. In the afternoon they have cookies and a big spread of teas with a kettle. There is always coffee. The breakfast was a very nice spread.

Most importantly were the comfy beds. All three of us agreed. And the heater didn't make any noise; the temperature was set and was perfect. It was close to the grounds where we spent most of our time. I'll remember this hotel next time we visit UVA.

The important stuff: It's clean. It's safe. It's secure.

I quite like this place. It's well taken care of, but definitely showing its age. It has a nice historical character you don't often see at hotels these days.

I would definitely stay here again.

This was my first stay at The English Inn. The pricing was very competitive, and it had very good rating from both Trip Advisor and AAA sonI thought I would try it. I found the English Inn to be a very nice hotel. The hotel was noticeably clean, landscape and well managed. Room was very comfortable especially the bed and the bedding. Breakfast buffet was as nice as hotel I have visited. An associate greeted me. The front desk was very welcoming when we arrived. Will definitely rebook when traveling back to Charlottesville.

If you like lots of large TVs in a hotel dining area or lounge or gym blaring the latest news or weather reports or ads for medication, then this is not the kind of hotel for you. If you want a warm, welcoming place where you can sit down in comfortable chairs or couches near a fireplace and discuss with your friends or family without distractions or play a pleasant board game, then this is likely the perfect place.
Here, you can think. You might even be able to hear yourself think and plan and strategize or read a book. Here be this English Inn of Charlottesville, where your thoughts are clear and the warmth be near.
I would visit again, and stay again and walk outside around the corner to the best bagel store in all of Central Virginia.

Nice place but they need to hire the front desk people with some manners and personality. We checked it the other day and the girl at the front desk acted as if we were inconveniencing her! Never told us what time breakfast was or anything for that matter

It should be called the Olde English Inn: it’s nice but a bit old (like me haha), although some aspects were update, like the bathroom. Check-in was efficient (although bordering on rude) and they honored our request for a quiet room: top floor, end of the hall, and overlooking a pretty community garden. The room was spacious and the beds very comfortable. There were several amenities: iron + full-sized board, coffee, effective black-out curtains, minifridge (empty), and microwave. The free breakfast spread was plentiful, and my selection was all right: the bagel was good, but the scrambled eggs and sausage were so-so. However: Weak coffee. Unwieldy plastic cutlery. Styrofoam plates. Ugh.
